qualia exhibition - 2025
tether is a temporal installation piece directly informed by user interaction, intended to bring awareness to the creative, connective, and ultimately fleeting power of the present moment.
despite being anchored to a single space in the gallery, the body of the piece, which consists of a colorful series of suspended rubber strands, will expand and undulate about as attached groups of participants weave around each other, forming flexible knots above their heads. since no person is the same in their preferences or social behavior, each temporary textile will vary in form, scale, and intricacy depending on who is interacting with it, commenting on timing, fate, and the transitory nature of human connection. after each instance of participation, the elastic strands will return to their original state, eliminating any tangible record of interaction as the present moment has slipped away. However, a psychological impression will remain, as individuals will be forever tethered to the spatial and interpersonal experience.

initial renderings for project proposal: materials consist of colored latex tubing, safety pins, and a metal ring secured to the ceiling with eye hooks and zip ties

piece in use on exhibition night: total dimensions measure 12' x 2' x 10'
